The 11th Don Harradine Memorial Competition and Trophy was played with ideal weather and playing conditions at the Augsburg Golfclub in Burgwalden. just over 80 players from Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and Germany competed for the famous mountain crystal trophy which is the challenge prize for the best gross score.
The coveted prize went to Peter Shaw from Golfclub Riedhof in Germany who successfully managed, once again, to stop the migration of the winner's trophy. He managed to rebuke his two Swiss colleagues Beni Kreier and Steven Thierney by thrashing them soundly in to second and third place. The majority of the prizes in both net categories also went mostly to our German colleagues.
During the prize giving ceremony and dinner, the attendees expected a humorous speech by Peter Harradine which he duly delivered by reminiscing over the problems and highlights relating to the organization and the implementation of the past ten tournaments. He also dwelt on the effect and close solidarity his father had with greenkeepers and he thanked the tremendous commitment shown by the supporting sponsors in the turf industry.
He was extremely surprised to receive an old plan of the Augsburg Golf course from Dietmar Wachter who was involved in the construction of the course under the directives of Peter's father.
Hein Zopf, the former President of the Austrian Greenkeeper's Association, presented details of the 12th Trophy which will be held in Kössen (Austria) on the 20th - 22nd of September 2011.
The merry atmosphere continued with some lively exchanges of ideas which went beyond all political borders until the festivities slowly and finally reached the concluding finale.
